Here it is Christmas Day Eve... Chris and kids are in bed. He has to fly back to Fort.Mac in the morning! :( Well anyway, I am ashamed to admit that I didn't send out Christmas cards....again!
So, here I am tonight trying to design one to print off of my printer to send back to Ft.Mac with my husband to my in laws.
As you can see it is not going well cause I just found this picture of Houstyn (my niece) when I took her to Carters first day of school and had to post it!

~I am a huge procrastinator & it drives my mother crazy.

~I actually love chewing my nails. If I didn't get gel nails put on every month I would ignore the pain and chew every nail off my hands!

~I used to have 2 piercings back in the day...one was in my nose.

~My sister & I talk to each other on the phone for about 4+ hours a day...we both have the hands free head set thing. It drives the rest of our family nuts!! Oh...and with 4 kiddies between us, getting together for drinks is hard so we just do it over the phone and it feels like we are together....ahhhh!lol

~Each of my children have a silly song that I made up & sing to them.

~Someday I want to go underwater in a shark cage with Great Whites...my husband and son has the same dream.

I don't know anyone else with a blog so I will tag my old high school friend but new photography buddy Cora. I am trying to convince her to get a blog.

When I first decided to make photography my career I had a specific market in mind....Life!

I love family and children's photography but I wanted to take it a step further and photograph families in their element.
I would love to build a session around an event that you enjoy! Do you love to have picnics, snowball fights, trips to the beach, or flying a kite!
How about a "Day in the life of your family". Does your family have a tradition of cooking breakfast every weekend or baking Christmas cookies...?
These are the photos that I love taking of my family.

Yesterday we decided to take advantage of the windy weather & found an old Spiderman kite that was missing some parts but hey, it flew!

So ...we have all heard of these famous designers, but can you imagine your 3 young daughters playing with your priceless 4" heals? I can't!

After I was booked for this session I found out that the mom is a shoe fanatic....130 pairs to be exact....(Kelly, I say that with the utmost respect) & with three daughters.....HELLO...Could you ask for a more perfect shoot?

Kelly finally got the nerve and we did a cute indoor photo shoot before we headed outside!

I realized that taking pictures of my own children is a lot harder then taking pictures of other children!
I actually find my self getting mad & start bribing my son with chocolate and ice cream...it never works & we usually end up leaving in frustration.

Well, last nights attempt @ Christmas card pictures went something like that. I didn't get the "posed" picture that I wanted for the grandparents but I love the ones that I did get!

When my sister asked me to do birthday invitations for my niece, I knew that I wanted something fun & unique.
We did a mini photo shoot in my backyard and added them to her invitation!

I had so much fun doing this! So... I will be adding a 1/2 hour session with invitation design to my price list soon. :)

Back on track with the Z family

After writing my last post, it felt like a weight had been lifted off of my chest and my creative juices started to flow!

My sister has been wanting family pictures for awhile now so I called her today and asked her to get the children ready cause we are doing them in an hour. The lighting isn't the greatest in her living room...but that is my only complaint! I would take grain in my pictures anytime to capture what I did today.

Finally...I am smiling!

This was supposed to be cropped for a feet picture but I love the look like this and Kingston is just to precious.

This picture was so out of focus but I loved the feel of it, so put a texture on & I am going to put it on a canvas and my sister is putting it in Kingstons bed room.

Going into this session I had a vision of a beautiful sleeping baby that I could smoosh, bend and mold....and that is exactly what I got.

These past few months have been like a whirlwind!
I went from being a stay @ home Mom dreaming of being a photographer, to a stay @ home Mom/Photographer!
I am loving every minute of it. However separating work and family has had it's difficulties! Lately it feels like me & my laptop are joined @ the hip....well, fingers!
So last weekend on a whim, my husband & I decided to pack up the 2 kids and our tent...YES I said tent and go on a relaxing back to nature family camping trip!
When we finally got everything set up, I looked around and felt an emptiness, like something was missing! "My laptop, how am I going to work on pictures?" I knew I left it @ home but it didn't quite register until I was alone at the site.
I finally told my self that this is a prefect opportunity to relax, spend time with family and take some pictures of nature. I haven't done any of that recently.

The evening was going great. We went to the beach, I took some pics of flowers, our campsite and the kids playing in the tent.
Then the clouds started to roll in & the thunder started. Well, I thought I would run to the beach with my camera to get some pictures of the amazing sky.
Let me just say that when birds start flying the opposite way, by the hundreds...stop taking pictures and follow them!
So as I was running in a crazy rain/hail/lighting storm you would think that getting hit by lighting would worry me, or the fact that the hail was bruising me as it hit me in the face or even my family back @ the campsite taking cover in a tent! Oh no! I was shoving my camera down my shirt praying that my soaking wet clothes would protect it!!
Well my camera survived...oh, and so did we!
We were so wet the next morning that my husband packed up & we were gone by 5:30am

We are now shopping for a camper!

Avens Namesake...

This is meant to be a blog for my photography....but this I just had to write...

Feb 18th 2007, an hour after I found out I was pregnant with Aven, Dean dropped my husband, Chris off after an afternoon of quadding. I passed Dean in our back alley and told him I was pregnant, he was the first person I told...he was so excited.
Dean and Christina where also trying to have a baby and were engaged, they were a beautiful couple!

Chris & I decided on our baby girls name, Aven on June 4th, no middle name was chosen. We went though every name...grandparents & great grand parents names and nothing felt right, so we decided on Aven Alexander...no middle name!

How could we have known that 5 days later through tragic circumstances our daughters middle name would be chosen!

One year ago on June 8th 2007, I was sitting eating Panago pizza with my sister...we were both pregnant. My husband Chris had decided to go on a overnight quadding trip with our good friend & quadding buddy Dean.
The next morning my husband called with the horrible news...."Dean was in an accident, it doesn't look good!"

Those 2 days after the accident was unbearable for us. Watching his fiance and parents, (he was an only child) made us fall apart even more!
On this day last year, June 11th 2007 Dean Francis MacIsaac passed away...
I have known Dean since grade 6 . I have so many memories of him, all of them funny!
I know that everyone says this but...you couldn't have known a better guy. He was always happy, funny...a sweet heart. Everything he said would always make you laugh....."Nah by" (Newfie saying)
Oh...and Three Doors Down, Kryptonite ,will always remind me of all of us @ Ben's!

Aven Dean Alexander.....She will grow up knowing that she was named after a man who was kind, loving, respected, hardworking, funny......I could go on forever...but most of all missed!

We Love You & miss you so much...

Clickin' Cancer's Butt...

What an amazing and emotional weekend!

I would like to thank Hope Walls of Hope Walls Photography for the invitation to join her and the other ladies of Ticdesign as official photographers for the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

My life, like many others has been devastated by cancer. Both of my grandfathers passed away from cancer, my uncle Terry is a survivor of throat cancer... and just last month my grandmother was diagnosed with bowel cancer and underwent surgery last week.

During the relay I photographed every emotion, love, hate, sadness & empathy but most of all strength!

This year I was taking pictures of people running.......next year I will be taking pictures while I am running.....along with the rest of my family....see you all there!

Before the shoot I was a little worried about how comfortable she would be in front of the camera as I am new to this and posing people makes me cringe.

WOW, was I surprised! Brittany worked the camera like a pro, with little or no direction.
Thank you Brittany for making it so easy on me!

I got it!
On Friday I purchased my long awaited Canon!

This was a crazy weekend of busy family time and being stuck in the house because of our Alberta weather!

When the weekend ended I was so disappointed that I didn't try to get some good shots with my new camera....maybe next week!!

Then, here I am going through the pictures I took all weekend and realized that I didn't have to try to get good pic's.....they just happened.

So here they are........crazy pictures of the first weekend my husband has been home in over 2 weeks, drinks with friends, breakfast @ my parents house and just being us.

I guess you could call this an official photo shoot.....lol!

I had 2 hours before I was returning Christine's camera and nobody to take pictures of......my son was in school and my daughter was having a nap! I was in panic mode, "who could I call to be my models of the day?"
So I emailed (I didn't even know her phone #) Shadia and asked her if I could borrow her pregnant belly and her camera loving daughter....and she graciously agreed.

The shoot went pretty good.....it makes it a lot easier when you have a little girl who smiles like an angel every time she looks at the camera & a beautiful pregnant mommy.

Thanks Shad for helping me out in my time of desperation....hope you like your pic's.

Yes....you read it right! I started a blog. I emailed a few pictures to a friend last week and she suggested that I start an online portfolio and a blog.....so here I am...thanks Christine!
I really don't know anything about the blogging world...I have never even visited one until a week ago but I am gonna give it a try...

I am a wife and mother of two beautiful children. Carter is 5 yrs old and is well aware of mommy's photography obsession....maybe addiction is a better word. He usually starts running when the camera comes out! Then, there's my little girl....she is 5 months old and I swear she already recognizes my camera & starts crying.

I am excited to begin this next step in my life & I look forward to meeting new people with the same passion that I have.
